Isn't it a beauty? There it is, the New M5!

---------- 1998 BMW M5 - unalloyed pleasure for the trained motorists ----------
The new M5 is coming in fall '98! The tremendous sport limousine is powered by V8 (5 Litre) engine.
The 4.7-litre V8 is a real cracker providing more than breathtaking 400 HP! In true athletic style, the M5
sprints from nought to a hundred (62 mph) in less than 5.5 seconds. Speed limiter cuts the speed at 250 kmh
(156 mph). The new M5 rolls on 18-inch wheels. New design components are combined with sporty sound
from 4 exhaust pipes. Aerodynamic optimisation hit the bumpers, mirrors, and underbody.

Here are the first official pictures of the 1998 BMW M5 (E39). Notice the new rearview mirrors (from M Roadster?),
white turn indicators, new projector type foglamps (and let me guess: Xenon headlights), air intake a'la BMW M3 and
M logo on the driver and passangers door.

The suspension, aerodynamics, tyres, and brakes were modified for optimum balance in any road situation
in order to ensure that sporty driving remains a safe pleasure. What a machine! It is an entirely harmonious
car for maximum motoring enjoyment. Again a great job made by BMW Motorsport. BMW, we thank you!

The mightiest BMW M5 on the planet will be equipped with the following:

Performance	400 HP ! no comment...
Engine	5 Litre V8 (4.9 L) VANOS Valve System (As the Euro BMW M3)
Torque	500 Newtonmetres !
Edition	"Comfort" and "Sport" (different chassis and interior)
Acceleration	From standstill to 100 kmh (62 mph) in 5.3 sec !!!!!!!!
Gearbox	Sequential "Tiptronic" 6-speed
Tyres	in front: 245/40 R 18 and 275/35 R 18 at the back (MICHELIN)

And what about the US version? Will it be a de-tuned M5 with sub 300 hp?
In fact, no one knows. But if you compare the US M3 versus the Euro M3 it
doesn't look good for you M-nuts over there. Time will tell! :-)))

The car seems to have a new electric gimmick, with which you can
fold the mirrors to the body (Mercedes already has it in the S- and
E-class).

These are the official photos released from BMW. Typical M distinctive details are the white turn indicators, rear
exhaust pipes (from the M Roadster?), 18" M-Wheels (These are chromed!), special M-color (I think this color
on the pictures is "Estoril Blue metalic", also M color by M roadster), aerodynamic mirrors, and of course, the
M5 badge on the trunk.
