the first real quattro
Three years after a presentation of TT concept on
the IAA in Frankfurt became this project reality.
The car is already in shops available. Only a few
changes were necessary to change the concept to
serie car. The final version became a third side-
window for better view from the car and to comp-
lete the thought of design. Also the air intakes
have became bigger, what should reduce the aggre-
sive look.
This 2+2 coupe looks like a racing car of the 1930's.
The coupe has a big nose and high-positioned door
lines. When sittin' in the car, the door lines are
beside your sholders. You might think the car is
quite high, but it isn't. It is 1.35 metre only. Also the
interior looks original and fascinating. A lot of
aluminium on board. Dials in "techno design". Some
design thoughts of TT concept are successfuly used
in Audi A6.
Not only the design is attractive. Also stuff under the
hood is proving it is a pure sport coupe. The turbo-
chargered powerhouse of TT is available in two ver-
sions. Top version provides a performance of 225 hp
and is supported by quattro driving mechanism. The
car sprints with this engine from nought to 100 kmh
(62mph) in 6.4 sec. The weaker TT has 180 hp and
sprints in 7.4 sec. For example, when I compared the
stronger version with the Boxster from Porsche, I
found out that the TT is stronger, faster, and even
cheaper. The basic TT is 53,000 DM, the stronger is
about 10,000 more (Boxster is 79,000). If you want
Xenon headlights, you need to pay 1,300 DM more.
That was only one of many possibilities of extra
outlet.
The difference between the two TT versions is visible
also outside. "Baby" TT rolls on 16" wheels and has
only one exhaust pipe. "The big brother" has 17"
wheels and two exhausts. For luxuriouss outlet, seats
with Alcantra leather are available. What means the
TT? It means Tourist Trophy, a name of motorcycle
race on the Isle of Man, UK.
Also the level of safety is high. Set of airbags is pro-
tecting your life. Co-pilot airbag has a special feature:
You may disable or enable his function.
Audi TT is gonna bacome sure another car that ensures
a huge success of Audi. It's gonna be a tough rival
of cars like Z3 from BMW or Boxster from Porsche.
And this aim is really possible with such a price starting
at 52,800 DM.
Audi TT will be available only in two colors. Blue and
silver. We hope that Audi will come out with another
colors for activating the freshness.
Audi TT is the first Audi built outside Germany. TT is
made in Hungary. In spite of this, we hope it will have
a quality adequate to what is used by Audi.
Roadster with 2 seats will appear in spring '99.
Small hint: Don't use back-seats when you are more
than 5 feet (cca. 150 cm) tall. Don't worry, Madonna
is within the limit. Am I right? :-)))
